21 DAY VISIT TO SOUTHERN PERU
LIMA - AREQUIPA - PUNO - JUNGLE - CUSCOSEE THE CAPITAL, LIMA - "LA BLANCA CIUDAD" DE AREQUIPA AND THE COLCA CANYON - LAKE TITICACA AND THE ISLANDS OF UROS AND TAQUILE - THE SACRED VALLEY OF THE INCAS, THEN TO MACHU PICCHU FOR TWO DAYS - 5 DAY VISIT TO THE JUNGLE OF MADRE DE DIOS AND FINISH YOUR TRIP DISCOVERING THE "NAVEL OF THE WORLD" CUSCO.

ITINERARY :
DAY ONE - Reception Jorge Chavez airport, Lima. Transfer to Miraflores Hotel - rest - lunch on your own - aftrenoon free, that evening were off to a local retaurant for dinner and a Peña (audience participation show of Peruvian folk dances ) - nite in Lima.
DAY TWO - 8am breakfast at hotel - 9:30 departure to visit the Gold Museum and La Costa Verde ( Lima's beaches ) - lunch on your own in Miraflores - 2 to 6pm we go to Old Lima, visiting la Plaza de Armas, el Catedral, Museo de la Nacion and the Presidents Palace - dinner on your own and the nite free to explore Miraflores. Nite in Lima.
DAY THREE - 6am breakfast at hotel - 9am flight to Arequipa - transfer to hotel and rest - lunch on your own, walking distance to La Plaza de Armas - afternoon and evening free to explore el Convento de Santa Catalina and other attractions in town (Arequipa is quite safe to walk arround). Nite in AQP
DAY FOUR -- 6am breakfast at hotel - 8am departure to the Colca Canyon - we take a bus ride that goes between the volcanos of Misti and Chachani viewing the Alpaca and the Vicuña in their natural environment - check-in at hotel in Chivay and you can spend the afternoon, soaking in the thermal baths of "La Calera". Nite in Chivay.
DAY FIVE -- 5am hotel breakfast and were off to see the deepest Canyon in the world..... "COLCA" - from here we can watch the great Condor as he ascends from the Canyon floor - the largest bird in the world will circle before your eyes ( 50 to 100 feet from you ), on his way to the coast. Afternoon return to Arequuipa - nite free in AQP.DAY SIX -- 8am breakfast - 11am flight to Puno (Juliaca airport) - transfer to Puno visiting the Pre-Inca Cemetery of Sillustani in route - nite in Puno.
DAY SEVEN -- 7am breakfast - at 9am we board a private boat on Lake Titicaca ( highest navigable lake in the world, at 14,107ft above sea level ) - we visit the floating island of Uros and then the island of Taquile, where we find the Aymara people living as they did in the day of the Incas ( 1332 A D ) - nite in Puno.
DAY EIGHT -- 6am breakfast - train departs at 8am for Cusco - a wonderful train ride that takes you along the Altiplano viewing the native Alpaca and Vicuña to one side and to the other, the mighty Cordillera Vilcanota, its peaks reaching 20,000 ft - 5pm arrival in Cusco and transfer to the Sacred Valley of the Incas ( URUBAMBA ) - nite at Quinta Patawasi.
DAY NINE -- SLEEP-IN...... day of rest and relax - or do some river rafting, mt. Biking or, visit the town of Urubamba, typical modern day Andean town of 15,000 inhabitants ( mixture of Quechua people, in native garb and his modern brother in Levys and Nikes ) - check out the ceramic work of Pablo Seminario and the Tejidos ( fine Alpaca weavings ) of Mon Repos - FIESTA at QP - nite at QP.
DAY TEN -- 7am breakfast - today we explore the Sacred Valley of the Incas, we start with the Inca town of Pisac and then the present day town of Pisac, with its Native Market - typical valley lunch in Calca and in the afternoon we travel to Ollantaytambo to discover its Inca Ruins "The Cradle of the Inca Empire " - nite at QP.
DAY ELEVEN -- 7am breakfast - transfer to train station in Ollantaytambo - 9:30am departure to Aguas Caliente, located at the base of the Citadel of Machu Picchu - check-in to the hotel - your on your own to have lunch in town and to go up and visit the Sanctuary of Machu Picchu in the afternoon - nite free to explore Aguas Caliente ( bring bathing suit for the thermal baths ) - nite in A/C.
DAY TWELVE -- 6am breakfast - at 7am we begin our, 3hr guided tour of the Lost City in the Clouds - your guide will explain the main functions of the City of Machu Picchu - after you will be free to climb Wyña Picchu ( the Temple of the Moon ) its a 3hr r/t hike, or explore the City extensively - return train departs at 4:30pm - nite at QP.
DAY THIRTEEN -- 7am breakfast - 8:30 transfer to Cusco, visiting the Pueblo of Chincheros en route - check-in to the hotel and the afternoon and evening are free to discover the Imperial City of Qosco - nite in Cusco.
DAY FOURTEEN -- 6am breakfast - 8:30am flight to the Biodiversity Capital of the World.... PUERTO MALDONADO - airport reception and a short tour of the city before we board our motor powered, dug out boat - after a two hour trip on the Madre de Dios river we reach our home for four nites - EcoAmozonia Lodge - a welcome native cocktail - rest and Lunch - In the afternoon with a native guide we explore monkey island, by boat - we see a diversified variety of monkeys in their natural habitat - in our return we can appreciate the jungle sunset in all its splendor - typical dinner and nite at the Lodge.DAY FIFTEEN -- 5am breakfast, so that we can see the jungle in action, as we hike to the Qocha Perdida (Lost Lake) - a place of refuge and feeding grounds for the black lizard, turtles, otters and many varieties of fish - we will also see giant trees as well as medicinal plants - the birds and insects will overwhelm you - once at the lake we climb to lookout points, built into the branches of the biggest Shihuahuaco trees that give us a panoramic view of the Ecosystem - return to the Lodge for lunch - afternoon free to relax and after dinner you may like to join us for a nightime walk to the cave of the Caimans.
DAY SIXTEEN -- 7am breakfast, then off to another great adventure - we cross the Madre de Dios river in boat until we arrive to the place where we reach the path that takes us to the Briolo River. During our walk we will enjoy a variety of trees, flowers with their vibrant colors, also many varieties of insects in their natural habitat. After a box lunch, dug out canoes wait for us on the Briolo River to take us back slowly to the river Madre de Dios so that we can enjoy the impressive flora and fauna in close proximity - dinner at the Lodge.
DAY SEVENTEEN -- 8am breakfast - today we navigate the river Madre de Dios until we reach the river Gamitana where we start our overland walk taking in the wonders of the low jungle - birds, parrots, and monkys are abundant and the plant life is thick and very impressionable - we reach the mouth of the river Gamitana in the heart of the jungle - after a box lunch we again board dug out canoes for the slow return trip to the river Madre de Dios and the back to the Lodge for dinner and rest.DAY EIGHTEEN -- 8am breakfast - boat ride back to Puerto Maldonado to catch our flight back to Cusco - transfer to our hotel - afternoon and evening free in Cusco - nite in Cusco.
DAY NINETEEN -- SLEEP-IN.....!!! - day free to do as you wish - we have river rafting - horse back riding - a day in the campo ( visit the ruins of Tipon and have "Chicharrones" in the town of Saylle ) - or just kick back and rest in Cusco - nite in Cusco.
DAY TWENTY -- 7am breakfast - at 9am we will start our Guided tour of the 4 Temples that surround the City of Cusco - Sacsaywaman, Kenko, Puca Pucara and Tambomachay - our guide will describe the function of each and after........ we will visit the finest of all the Inca Temples....... the Koricancha !! or Temple of the Sun, located very near la Plaza de Armas - afternoon and evening free to re-explore Cusco......" the Navel of the World " - nite in Cusco.DAY TWENTY ONE -- 7am breakfast - 10am flight to Lima - transfer to downtown hotel and check-in - day room - lunch on your own - afternoon free to walk around Miraflores and do your last minute shopping.
